Memories of Old Strathroy: The Stewart Lamont Letters
Stewart Lamont, as a 70 year-old resident of Chatham writes to the local newspaper, the Age Dispatch, about his years growing up in Strathroy. He arrived here with his family at the age of nine, in 1869 and left in 1886 to pursue a career. You get a feel of Strathroy in the early days; the families interconnected by marriage, the small factories making the products of the day, the businesses and hotels up and down Front and Frank Streets. You can follow the pranks, leisure activities and much more of young people in a very different era.

2009 Calendar - Historic Images of Downtown Strathroy
This calendar highlighted business and leisure activities in Strathroy. One example was the Waterworks and Pumping Station, the current location of SDHS's monthly meetings.
In 1902, the Citizens' Water, Gas & Electric Co. was engaged to construct a pump house and a network of mains with hydrants to supply fire protection to downtown. The location for the new station was ideal: the existing electric power house and Sydenham River complemented the new pumping station and provided necessary water and electricity to the growing downtown.
